S'pore port container throughput rises 4%
33.9m TEUs maintain port as one of the world's busiest in 2014; vessel arrival tonnage hits record 2.37b GT

THE Port of Singapore maintained its position as one of the busiest in the world as it recorded container throughput of 33.9 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2014, rising 4 per cent from the 32.6 million TEUs registered in 2013.
Total cargo tonnage handled last year also rose 3.5 per cent over 2013 to reach 580.8 million tonnes, according to Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, who announced the advance estimates of Singapore's 2014 port performance on Friday.
