Tuas Terminal breaks ground
Phase 1 involves reclaiming 294 ha of land and dredging the Tuas Basin and Temasek Fairway

CONSTRUCTION officially kicked off on Singapore's new Tuas Terminal on Friday, with Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Khaw Boon Wan launching the first of 222 caissons that will form the permanent structure of the wharf.
These watertight retaining structures, used while work on the foundation of the terminal is done, are each about the height of a 10-storey HDB block; they make the work more efficient and safer to execute than other construction methods. They come in standard sizes and are pre-fabricated on site, and so enable higher productivity and quality of the wharf structure.
