Weakened yen prompts Toyota to delay Lexus production in China

Its executives say it's now cheaper to produce the car in Japan; slowing China car market also a factor

New Lexus cars being checked in a plant in southern Japan. Toyota executives say the company will make the premium brand in China some day, but for now, it will focus on manufacturing and exporting the marque from home base.

TOYOTA Motor Corporation, the world's leading motor-vehicle manufacturer by sales, is expected to delay building its premium Lexus brand in China for at least several years.
