Website launched to connect students, job-seekers with maritime firms

A NEW website was launched on Wednesday by the Maritime Singapore Connect Office (MSC Office) to connect students and job-seekers with companies recruiting in the maritime industry.

The MSC Office was set up with a S$4 million commitment by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in 2016 to complement efforts by the Sectoral Tripartite Committee for Transport to attract more Singaporeans to join the maritime industry.

Students and job-seekers can look to the new website at www.maritimesgconnect.com for information on all things maritime - from education and career options, to scholarships and management trainee programmes offered by maritime employers in Singapore. Job-seekers can also upload their resumes on the website as an indication of their interest in internships and jobs in the industry.

Maritime companies, on the other hand, can use the website as a tool to contact interested candidates whenever a suitable role arises.

More than 160 tertiary students were given an overview of the new website earlier on Wednesday at the 4th Singapore Maritime Dialogue hosted by Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health Lam Pin Min.

The event was organised under the MaritimeONE framework - a student outreach effort by the MPA, the Singapore Maritime Foundation, the Singapore Shipping Association and the Association of Singapore Marine Industries.

MPA chief executive Andrew Tan said the MSC Office serves as a one-stop centre providing useful information on the maritime industry and career opportunities. The website is also launched at a juncture when the industry needs to recruit from an even wider talent pool across various specialisations to meet the demands of increasing automation and digitisation in the sector.

More than 200 students and job-seekers have deposited their resumes with the MSC Office so far.
