HSBC names UBS’ Tommy Leung as South Asia head of global private banking

HSBC on Thursday (Aug 3) announced that Tommy Leung will be its South Asia head of global private banking from Oct 19.

He will lead the South Asia team of HSBC’s private-banking arm to support entrepreneurs, ultra-high-net-worth individuals and their families, as well as drive growth in South Asia markets, said HSBC in a statement.

Before this, he was at Swiss-headquartered UBS, where he chalked up more than 20 years’ experience in private and investment banking. He was most recently the Asia-Pacific managing director and co-head of the bank’s Global Wealth Management’s global family and institutional wealth.

He previously served as UBS’ Asia-Pacific head of active portfolio advisory under the global wealth management arm; he was also the investment banking arm’s Asia-Pacific head of credit sales.

Leung succeeds Philip Kunz, who was with HSBC for six years.

Siew Meng Tan, regional head of HSBC Global Private Banking for the Asia-Pacific, said: “Tommy’s expertise in delivering solutions for ultra-high-net-worth and entrepreneurial clients, and his strong track record of strategic execution make him the ideal person to take the business forward in South Asia.”

HSBC said it will continue to invest in its global private banking client and product capabilities in its Singapore wealth hub and expand in key markets. Last month, the bank launched its global private banking arm in India.
