A WHITE PAPER on longevity has called on Singapore to invest in a "longevity agenda'' to improve the welfare of Singaporeans and also enable the economy to harness the benefits of longer, healthier lives.
The paper by Professor Andrew Scott of the London Business School, also urged the creation of a "longevity council'' comprising experts from various fields to consider the policies needed to support longer lives.
Singapore has the world's longest life expectancy of about 85 years. At the same time its birth rate - only 8.9 births per 1,000 people - is among the world's lowest.
