What's Up This Week
Perpetual music for all
The arts world has been adversely affected by the pandemic, but the music goes on. At least for Rolex, which is launching a new initiative to support musicians and singers through this critical period. As part of the watch brand's philosophy that the arts should stay as an integral part of everyday life, it is sponsoring three 'Perpetual Music' concerts that will take place in prestigious venues in Italy, Germany and France. Starting from Aug 21 to early September, the concerts will be hosted by Rolex Testimonees such as tenors Juan Diego Flórez and Rolando Villazòn, as well as Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva. French violinist Renaud Capuçon will also take part.
Flórez will perform at Teatro Rossini, Pesaro, on Aug 21 with an orchestra, while Yoncheva will lead a recital programme at the Berlin Staatsoper on Sept 1. On Sept 3, Rolando Villazón and Renaud Capuçon will be at the Opéra national de Paris (Palais Garnier), with a repertoire of baroque and chamber music. Also taking part in the concerts are 100 artists whose work and lives have been affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
