What luxury watch brands are up to in this virus-afflicted time
BREITLING AND URWERK have turned to charity work. But independent watchmakers H Moser & Cie and MB&F are forging ahead with a collaboration to create new timepieces - a move unthinkable before Covid-19.
For its part, Breitling has committed to donating 500,000 (S$735,000) Swiss francs to support healthcare professionals working on the frontline to save the lives of people infected with the virus. The money will come from the sale of its Superocean Heritage 1957 Limited Edition II (1000 pieces at S$6980 each), which the brand has rolled out for this purpose.
As its name suggests, the model is a follow-up to the Superocean Heritage 1957 Limited Edition launched in Breitling's first ever Summit Webcast in April. The latter is a salute to Breitling's first diving watch introduced in 1957 - and it's notable for its rainbow-inspired design elements, which were seen as symbols of hope and optimism.
