Award-Winning Cinema
If mainstream Chinese New Year blockbusters aren't your cup of tea, head to The Projector where you'll find a handful of under-the-radar gems that are not playing at your local multiplex. Currently screening is The Garden of Evening Mists (pictured), which was nominated for nine Golden Horse Awards last year including Best Film. Based on Malaysian novelist Tan Twan Eng's Man Asian Literary Prize-winning novel of the same name, it stars Angelica Lee, Sylvia Chang and Hiroshi Abe.The plot revolves around a forbidden love affair between a Chinese girl and a mysterious Japanese gardener during post-World-War-II Malaya. Also playing exclusively at The Projector is the uncut NC16 version of Knives Out, which is up for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar; and Robert Eggers' (The Witch) haunting black-and-white psychological horror drama, The Lighthouse, starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.
