CHOOSING a big executive sedan here is a lot like buying a flagship smartphone. There are two unmissable models at the head of the short list, but if you look past them, you'll find equal or superior performance.

In your pocket, it's the Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy. On the road, it's the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes-Benz E-Class. For smartphones there might be nothing else, but for big luxury sedans, the new Audi A6 now makes the "must consider" list.
