Singapore shares end lower on Monday

SHARE prices on the Singapore bourse closed lower on Monday, with the key Straits Times Index down 28.34 points, or 0.88 per cent, to 3,181.45.

About 1.8 billion securities worth S$1.08 billion in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$0.60. Losers outnumbered gainers 292 to 103.

The most actively traded stock was Chip Eng Seng Corporation, which lost 9.5 Singapore cents, or 10 per cent, to end at S$0.85 after 197.6 million shares changed hands. Other actives included Thomson Medical Group and Vallianz Holdings.

Lafe Corporation Ltd called for a trading halt before market open on Monday, pending an announcement. No announcement had been made as at market close.
