STI continues its climb for fourth straight session

AFTER stumbling on disappointing economic results at the start of the week, the Singapore market found its footing on positive news from local companies to end higher on Friday.

The key Straits Times Index (STI) rose 20.25 points or 0.6 per cent to end at 3,297.83 on Friday. Four sessions of gains saw the index improve 1.15 per cent or 37.48 points over the course of the week. A total of 1.39 billion shares worth S$1.01 billion changed hands in the local bourse, versus 1.16 billion worth S$965.9 million on Thursday.

Gainers outnumbered losers 239 to 145, about five stocks up for every three down.
