Singapore shares open up on Monday

SINGAPORE stocks opened higher on Monday, with the Straits Times Index rising 0.2 per cent or 7.94 points to 3,299.23 as at 9.03am.

About 140.9 million shares worth S$116.8 million in total changed hands. Gainers outnumbered losers 100 to 47.

The most actively traded counter was Magnus Energy, which was flat at S$0.001 with 60.9 million shares changing hands. Other actives included Singtel and DISA.

Elsewhere, liquidity was lacking with Japan and South Korea on holiday and a partial holiday in the US where stocks will be open but bonds closed. Chinese markets are set to re-open after a week-long break, while Australian stocks added 0.45 per cent, Reuters reported.
