Chan Chun Sing calls for push towards being more sustainable

EVEN though Singapore has reduced its reliance on water imports in the last few decades, it must not be complacent and should instead set new targets in terms of its dependence on external energy supplies for the next 50 years, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Chan Chun Sing.

Speaking at the Singapore Institute of Director's (SID) flagship Director's Conference on Tuesday, Mr Chan drew reference to Singapore's sustainability journey as a nation and encouraged the audience to think about the goal. "The question is: Can we imagine a city where every panel, every wall or every window is an energy collection point?" he asked rhetorically. "If we can do that, if we can tap on more sustainable and renewable energy, then we can greatly decrease demand on external energy supply, and this will have the same impact on Singapore's society and economy just as water has. It would reduce the threat of energy supply being disrupted, and it will lead to a more sustainable and clean environment to live in," said Mr Chan.
