Committee proposes Founders' Memorial at Bay East Garden
THE Founders' Memorial Committee has submitted its proposal that Bay East Garden be the site of a tribute to Singapore's founding leaders - and that the memorial be opened to the public by 2025, in time to celebrate Singapore's 60th year of independence.
The submission came after the 15-member committee found more public support for the memorial and that it be located at Bay East Garden, "as its park setting and proximity to water is a good reflection of Singapore's status as a Garden City".
In March last year, nearly nine months after it was set up, the committee reported that eight in 10 of the nearly 2,000 Singaporeans it had engaged favoured building a memorial to mark the values and ideals that underpin Singapore's rise. It also reported that of the two site options for the memorial, the committee preferred Garden by the Bay's Bay East Garden.
