Singapore shares open 0.1% up on Tuesday
SINGAPORE stocks opened 0.1 per cent higher on Tuesday, with the Straits Times Index advancing 2.24 points to 3,322.91 as at 9:03am. This came as US stocks edged higher overnight with a strong second-quarter earnings season continuing to attract more funds to the US equity market.
The Dow registered its ninth record closing high in a row, while the S&P ended slightly higher on Monday, with consumer and technology sector gains offsetting losses in energy.
On the Singapore bourse, about 50 million shares worth S$81.3 million in total changed hands, which worked out to an average unit price of S$1.63 per share.
The most actively traded counter was Rowsley, which fell S$0.002 to S$0.106 with 9.7 million shares changing hands.
Other actives included Singtel and YZJ Shipbuilding SG.
The field was roughly evenly matched, with 62 gainers to 59 losers.
Elsewhere, Japan's Topix was flat while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index added 0.2 per cent. South Korea's Kospi index advanced 0.3 per cent and futures on Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index slipped 0.2 per cent, Bloomberg reported.
