Tokyo: Stocks close lower as autos, banks fall

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday as major automakers fell and banks were in retreat after US Federal Reserve policymakers hinted at a slower pace for future interest rate hikes.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index slipped 0.14 per cent, or 26.65 points, to end the day at 19,702.63, while the Topix index of all first-section issues inched down 0.07 per cent, or 1.18 points, to 1,614.82.
