DURING the Japanese occupation in 1941 Hong Kong, the Dongjiang guerilla unit was tasked with smuggling persecuted intellectuals to safety. Hong Kong director Ann Hui's Our Time Will Come is based on true events in recounting the political awakening of local schoolteacher Fang Lan, who becomes drawn into the resistance movement.

Zhou Xun plays Fang as a heroine of clear-eyed composure. Eddie Peng is her recruiter Blackie, the division's sharpshooter captain. Wallace Huo is her ex-beau, a double agent.

Deanie Ip is the elderly mother. She insists on abetting the cause - to tragic consequences.
