Singapore Maritime Week 2017 opens
SINGAPORE Maritime Week (SMW) 2017, a week-long event with conferences, dialogues and exhibitions, commenced on Sunday.
Taking place at a challenging time for the industry, it will feature public outreach activities aimed at developing a greater appreciation for Singapore's vibrancy and diversity as a premier global hub port and leading international maritime centre.
The opening was officiated by Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Transport, Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"As the global maritime industry continues to face headwinds, it is critical for us to band together to address challenges," she said.
"SMW 2017 is a platform where we can discover how to turn these challenges into opportunities. We believe the knowledge exchange, debates, exhibitions and networking opportunities will help the industry navigate through the challenging times and prepare them for the future," she added.
Spearheaded by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the event will gather more than 20,000 maritime professionals including high-level delegates from port authorities, industry leaders and maritime experts. Some 30,000 members of the public are also expected to attend the events from April 22 to April 28.
