Tripartism Alliance set up to promote fair, progressive workplace
TRIPARTISM is finally given formal recognition with the setting up of Tripartism Alliance Limited to pool government-employer-worker resources and efforts to promote a fair and progressive workplace.
The limited liability company is started by the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore National Employers Federation and National Trades Union Congress and represents a move to "institutionalise" tripartism, which has helped Singapore overcome many challenges to achieve economic progress.
Announcing the formation of Tripartism Alliance on Friday, Manpower Minister Lim Swee Say said it will be spearheaded by Stephen Lee as chairman. Until recently, Mr Lee was president of the SNEF and chairman of Singapore Airlines.
The other members on the board of Tripartism Alliance are NTUC union leaders Heng Chee How and Tan Hock Soon; SNEF members Douglas Foo and Han Kwee Juan; and MOM Permanent Secretary Aubeck Kam.
Mr Lim said Tripartism Alliance will subsequently also focus on workplace safety and health.
