TWEAKS to Singapore's patent legislation have been tabled in Parliament for the first time, as the government pushes to enhance the quality of patents approved and to make the rules more user-friendly for inventors.

Under the Patents (Amendment) Bill introduced on Monday by Senior Minister of State for Law and for Finance Indranee Rajah, all patent applications are to be fully examined by the Intellectual Property of Singapore (IPOS). Aimed at ensuring that inventions meet Singapore's standards, this change can be expected to generate more work for the 124 Singapore-registered patent attorneys.
