Singapore shares close 1.6% higher on Tuesday

SHARE prices on the Singapore bourse closed higher on Tuesday with the key Straits Times Index up 44.81 points or 1.6 per cent at 2,896.55.
Some 1.44 billion shares worth S$1.3 billion were traded. Gainers outpaced losers with 275 counters up and 111 counters down.
