Scoot gears up for Singapore-Athens route launch in June 2017
BUDGET airline Scoot is gearing up to launch its first destination in Europe - Athens, which is scheduled to start on June 20, 2017.
The new service between Singapore and Athens marks Scoot's first long-haul flight between Asia-Pacific and Europe, as well as the longest flight operated by a low-cost carrier (LCC) with flight distance exceeding 10,000 kilometres.
The new Singapore-Athens route will be serviced by new and spacious Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners fitted with eight crew bunks and a total of 329 seats, including 18 in ScootBiz.
The commencement of Scoot's services to Europe is part of the Singapore Airlines (SIA) group's strategic move to stimulate passenger traffic between Asia-Pacific and Europe, as well as to boost connectivity through the Singapore hub.
Said Lee Lik Hsin, CEO of Budget Aviation Holdings (BAH): "Guests have requested us to fly to Europe for a while, and Scoot is excited to finally oblige. Scoot has devoted much thought to configuring our cabin products and services to elevate and transform the low-cost travel experience, enabled by our world-first all-787 Dreamliner fleet, and this has positioned us well to mount our first-ever long-haul flight between Asia-Pacific and Europe."
BAH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SIA formed in 2016, owns and manages SIA LCCs Scoot and Tigerair.
