Tharman urges workers to continually upgrade skills
Singapore
IN the face of rapidly changing technology, workers need to continually upgrade their skills to remain relevant, said Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He was speaking about the economic and social context of programmes such as SkillsFuture at the Switzerland-Singapore Business Forum at the Shangri-La Hotel on Tuesday, as part of Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann's state visit to Singapore.
Mr Schneider-Ammann said that Singapore and Switzerland face similar challenges in today's dynamic economy. "As many other industrialised countries, Singapore faces the challenges of a rapidly changing economy and markets, partly due to revolutions such as automatisation and digitalisation."
