Tokyo: Shares drop at open, extending global rout

    [TOKYO] Tokyo shares opened lower Tuesday, extending a wave of selling in the US and Europe as investors grappled with the consequences of Britain's shock decision to leave the European Union.

    The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 1.40 per cent, or 214.50 points, to 15,094.71 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares fell 1.40 per cent, or 17.19 points, to 1,208.57.
