STI up 1.7% on Wall Street, China rally
Other major Asian bourses also advance as investors put aside jitters driven by growth slowdown and oil slump
WALL Street's upbeat overnight showing spurred by comforting macro data and a rally in Chinese stocks led share prices in the local bourse on to its fifth straight day of gains.
The benchmark Straits Times Index gained 44.57 points or 1.7 per cent to finish at 2,726.96 on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, major Asian bourses moved to the jolly beat, putting aside jitters over weak global growth and oil slump - if only for a day or two - with China's Shanghai Composite extending its gains by another 4 per cent on Wednesday.
