European stock markets nudge higher at open
[LONDON] Europe's main stock markets inched upward at the start of trading on Wednesday, with London, Frankfurt and Paris each gaining around 0.1 per cent.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index opened at 6,130.03 points compared with Tuesday's close.
In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 advanced slightly to 9,700.16 points and the Paris CAC 40 climbed to 4,405.95.
World indices had fallen heavily on Tuesday and nervous investors in Asia resumed selling Wednesday on worries over the weak global economy.
The International Monetary Fund on Tuesday urged governments to take action to prevent another global recession, warning there was an increasingly "dangerous" view that policymakers are out of ideas or had lost the will.
