Tan Cheng Bock announces second bid for presidency in 2017

FORMER People's Action Party Member of Parliament Tan Cheng Bock wants to have a second shot at becoming Singapore's President.
Speaking to the media on Friday morning, the 75-year-old medical doctor officially announced that he intends to be a candidate for the next election, which must be held by August 2017.
"For me to become president, I must reach out to all Singaporeans. That is what I mean by being a unifying figure," he said at a press conference that was also attended by his wife and two children.
He added that the President's role is apolitical and the person should not be beholden to any political party. The President should also not be combative as that would ruin Singapore.
Dr Tan narrowly lost after a recount to the eventual winner, Tony Tan Keng Yam, at the last polls in 2011 which had four candidates.
