S Korea contemplates consumption boosting measures: minister
[SEOUL] South Korea's vice finance minister said on Thursday the government is currently considering what additional measures are needed to boost consumption as signs emerge of a slowing in household spending.
"We are watching the private consumption situation and thinking about what additional measures we can take," said Vice Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok to reporters on the sidelines of an event in Seoul. "The government will likely have no choice but to announce microeconomic measures." Choi was referring to recent concerns the recovery in consumption may falter as the effects of government measures taken last year to boost household spending fade.
