Swiss logistics firm Bertschi eyes specialty chemical opportunities on Jurong Island
SWISS chemical logistics company Bertschi has opened a S$45 million facility in Jurong Island, with an eye on supporting the expanding specialty chemicals sector in Singapore.
At the opening of the facility - its first in South-east Asia - on Friday, it also announced that it will invest another S$20 million in a state-of-the-art dangerous goods warehouse that will be completed in the second half of next year.
The firm would provide to specialty chemical companies handling and storage services for dangerous goods, isotank storage, blending, drumming and repackaging services.
Its facility means that new plants on Jurong Island will need less capital expenditure as they can outsource their processes to Bertschi, said the group's president and CEO Hans Jorg Bertschi. It would also ease internal logistics challenges for producers that hope to debottleneck, or modify, their plants, he added.
Already, Bertschi has signed on its first customer in Solvay Novecare, offering it drumming, transport and warehousing services since May last year.
