Najib says Bank Negara aware of Ambank accounts, conscience clear
But many Malaysians and opposition politicians remain doubtful given his refusal to name the donor
Kuala Lumpur
AHEAD of Umno's annual assembly on Tuesday, Prime Minister Najib Razak sought to convince party members of his probity in the controversial receipt of RM2.6 billion (S$855.2 million) from an unidentified Arab, by declaring his conscience clear and maintaining the central bank had been aware from the get-go of his personal bank accounts in Ambank.
Mr Najib stated the central bank was notified when the accounts were created, according to a Bernama report of his Monday night interview with TV3, which comes under the Media Prima group. The media conglomerate is indirectly controlled by Umno or the United Malays National Organisation.
