Tokyo: Stocks open higher

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened modestly higher amid quiet trade Monday, beginning a holiday-shortened week.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 0.37 per cent, or 69.85 points, to 18,838.91 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.36 per cent, or 5.41 points, to 1,521.60.
