Fusing kathak and flamenco on a common stage at the Esplanade
The Esplanade's dance programme, now in its 10th edition, brings back familiar luminaries - and a couple of new faces - from the contemporary dance world.

WHEN the gypsies travelled from India to Spain, they brought with them the traditional dances of the South Asian continent. Flamenco is largely believed to have morphed from dances like kathak, for instance, but it's rare to see both on see both on stage together.
Until Akram Khan met Israel Galvan that is. Together, the proponents of kathak and flamenco promise a collaboration based on their interpretations of the dances they grew up with.
"It'll be an encounter of two artistes - each investigating his own traditions, but we'll be leaning towards the primitive and absurd," shares Akram in a phone interview.
