Shanghai: Shares fall sharply in morning trade

    [SHANGHAI] Chinese shares fell sharply on Tuesday morning as investors grew cautious after the market approached the key 4,000-point level, dealers said.

    The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index slipped 1.64 per cent, or 65.56 points, to 3,926.55.

    The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, lost 1.91 per cent, or 42.63 points, to 2,187.66.
