Taiwan: Stocks fall as US jobs data stirs rate hike expectation; TSMC drags
[TAIPEI] Taiwan stocks fell 0.76 per cent on Monday, tracking falls in other regional bourses after strong US jobs data sparked expectation that the US Federal Reserve may raise interest rates sooner than previously expected.
As of 0120 GMT, the main TAIEX index had fallen to 9,572.20, after closing up 0.5 per cent on Friday.
The electronics sub-index was off 0.5 per cent, with the world's top contract chip maker, TSMC, trading 2 per cent lower.
Banking shares also shed 0.5 per cent.
The Taiwan dollar was down 0.3 per cent at T$31.545 to the US dollar.
