HAVING guest choreographers and holding dance residencies are effective ways to develop the local dance scene, said Kavitha Krishnan, artistic director of Maya Dance Theatre.
"It's beneficial for the company and its dancers because it is one way to train our dancers, and it also enables various styles and/ or creations by different choreographers," she said.
"Sometimes, having an outsider create a work for your dancers enables new ideas and perspectives. It also challenges them to develop new skills. This will add a new layer to the company."
