28 business pioneers win awards

IT was a night to honour Chinese business pioneers for their entrepreneurial spirit and contributions to the Singapore economy.
Hailing from a range of trades and industries, 28 individuals were presented the SG50 Outstanding Chinese Business Pioneers Awards by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) at a gala dinner at the Ritz Carlton on Friday evening. Many of the winners, aged 66 to 91, are household names. They include "Popiah King" and executive chairman of Tee Yih Jia Food Manufacturing Sam Goi Seng Hui, executive chairman of the Hong Leong Group Kwek Leng Beng, executive chairman of the Raffles Medical Group Loo Choon Yong, and Wee Cho Yaw, chairman emeritus and adviser of United Overseas Bank.
