Japan's January household spending falls 5.1% vs year ago
[TOKYO] Japanese household spending fell 5.1 per cent in January from a year earlier, government data showed on Friday, in a worrying sign consumer spending remains weak.
The fall was more than economists' median estimate of a 4.1 per cent decline.
Spending fell 0.3 per cent in January from the previous month, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said on Friday, versus the median estimate of a 0.4 per cent increase.
