Twice as cool

The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is an extremely refined high-performance limousine.

FOR every Mercedes-Benz model (almost), there is a sportier and more aggressive AMG variant. But only the S-Class flagship limousine gets two versions with two engine options from its high-performance division. In terms of pure straight line performance, it is difficult to see the difference between the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. The S63 has a 5.5-litre V8 while the S65 gets 6.0-litre V12. Both are turbocharged and allow the former to sprint from zero to 100 kmh in 4.4 seconds, while the latter dispatches it in 4.3.

But there are differences and they are aplenty.

For one, the S65 AMG is a "behemoth" compared to the S63 AMG, tipping the scales at 2,250 kg compared to just under two tonnes for the latter. But while the S65 is available exclusively as a long wheelbase model, the S63 can be ordered in standard wheelbase or long wheelbase form, or with a long wheelbase body and 4Matic four-wheel-drive, which can add on the pounds.
