Governments' attempts to police the Internet doomed to fail: Icann

ICANN, the gatekeeper for Web addresses, said government attempts to impose rules on the Internet are doomed to fail as the group seeks to end its own formal ties with US legislators.
Governments can't effectively enforce laws on websites available in different jurisdictions, Icann's chief executive officer Fadi Chehade said in an interview on Nov 17. Any group that makes policies for the Web must be decentralised and involve the private sector and academia, he said.
