Cheaper oil fails to dent core CPI rise for October - up 0.2%, higher than forecast

PRICES in the US excluding fuel and food increased more than forecast in October as a drop in energy costs failed to filter through to other goods and services.
The so-called core measure of the consumer price index (CPI) climbed 0.2 per cent - the most in five months - after raising 0.1 per cent in September, a Labor Department report showed on Thursday. The total cost of living was little changed last month, reflecting cheaper oil.
