Grooming the right qualities in a global leader
Being able to learn from experience and having cultural intelligence are more crucial than just having global experience and cultural knowledge.
WORKING with people from different cultures can be challenging. Many cross-cultural work relationships break down not only because of language, but cultural differences as well. For instance, in some cultures, getting the job done is the primary goal. In other cultures, getting the job done requires building the relationship first.
Cultural differences, when not managed effectively, lead to conflict and distrust. This can result in poor performance, burnout, and other negative outcomes for both individuals and firms.
There is a clear need for global leaders who can manage cultural diversity well. What is less clear are the qualities required of these leaders. In fact, there are often misconceptions about what they look like and how they can be developed.
