SRI Lankan designer Lalin Jinasena admits it is ironic that while he has designed numerous holiday homes as well as an award-winning boutique hotel, there was hardly any need for designing when it came to his own house. Home for Mr Jinasena, and his fashion designer wife Michelle Sielman, is a two-storey house off Holland Road, which they have been renting for the past year. "The house was designed by two architects, so I could see the attention to detail in the design," says Mr Jinasena. "We cannot do much to the house, since we are renting the place, but honestly, there is little need to improve on the design."

The couple moved to Singapore from Sri Lanka two years ago, and had previously been renting an apartment in the Marina Bay area. "We wanted to have a dog, and moving to a house will mean more running space for the furry one," says Mr Jinasena.

The couple viewed about 10 places before deciding on this terrace home. Besides its attractive location, the home's unfussy layout attracted the couple. "We came here, and everything clicked."
