Indonesia eyes growth in offshore sector
It aims to reverse its position as a net energy importer
INDONESIA is poised to become a growth area for the offshore industry as the country increases its oil and gas exploration & production (E&P) spending to eventually reverse its position as a net energy importer.
According to several reports, Indonesia has indicated that it will step up its production of oil and gas, and a leading official of the country's shipping sector believes that this will create opportunities for companies from Singapore and elsewhere.
Businesses looking at Indonesia will find opportunities ranging from the rejuvenation of older tonnage, the preparation of port infrastructure and developments of the Eastern Indonesian ports as the country prepares a plan to develop the market for offshore support vessels (OSVs), said Carmelita Hartoto, chairwoman of the Indonesian National Shipowners' Association.
