WeChat has 'no plans' to monetise yet
As WeChat spreads its wings internationally, the company is far more concerned with staking its claim on users for now, reports VICTORIA HO
THE biggest Chinese chat app has no plans to make money for the next few years as it tussles with other competitors in a landgrab for users, according to Poshu Yeung, Tencent's vice-president of its international business group.
Tencent owns WeChat, a popular mobile messaging app that has the lion's share of the Chinese market, with 355 million monthly active users.
And it's growing fast. It had 272 million users in the third quarter of last year.
