Thai junta, economic chiefs discuss protecting growth
King to endorse Prayuth as leader of the military council
[BANGKOK] Thailand's junta met the head of the central bank, the stock exchange and other economic officials to discuss measures to safeguard growth in South-east Asia's second-biggest economy, three days after staging a military coup.
Officials including Bank of Thailand governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul attended the meeting called by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) at an army compound in Bangkok.
Army Commander and Acting Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha dissolved the Senate on Saturday, removing the last democratic institution in the country and giving the military junta more freedom to put new laws in place. He put Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong in charge of the key economic ministries the day before.
