SRC goes ahead with long-delayed upgrading
US$500m project includes 'green' gasoline facility and cogen plants
[SINGAPORE] The green light has finally been given for a US$500 million-plus upgrading of the Singapore Refining Company (SRC) complex on Jurong Island, a project first touted five to six years ago.
The expansion will help boost the competitiveness of SRC's 290,000 barrel-per-day refinery amid the current global refining overcapacity that has forced less sophisticated plants to shut down.
SRC's latest upgrading includes building a "green" gasoline facility, to cater to growing clean fuel requirements in the region, and a gas-fired cogeneration plant that will help meet in-house electricity needs and improve energy efficiency.
