ASIA-PACIFIC excluding Japan saw its share of the world's mergers and acquisition (M&A) in terms of deal value fall to 14 per cent in the first quarter of this year, as North America regained centrestage with a vengeance, capturing 54.4 per cent of global market share.
But the region is poised to make a comeback this quarter, Wang Yiqing, Mergermarket's APAC head, tells BT.
"With the global Covid vaccination campaign being rolled out, Asian dealmakers are also lining up to resume cross-border M&A deal execution and discussions. We expect APAC's global M&A share to bounce back in the second quarter as most regions back from Chinese New Year break in the first quarter, which is traditionally a sluggish period for APAC's M&A," Ms Wang said on Monday.
