MALAYSIA’S economy expanded 14.2 per cent year on year (yoy) in the third quarter of this year, supported by robust domestic demand and exports as well as firm recovery in the labour market, said Bank Negara governor Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus.

The figures, released by the central bank on Friday (Nov 11), exceeded the majority of forecasts by analysts, which ranged between 10 per cent and 13.6 per cent.

The 14.2 per cent figure is also an improvement from the 8.9 per cent growth rate for the second quarter of this year. Quarter on quarter, Malaysia’s GDP rose 1.9 per cent.
