Zakir is associate editor at The Straits Times, which he joined in 2005 as a political reporter. He was ST’s Indonesia bureau chief based in Jakarta from 2011 to 2014. He has had stints as political editor, foreign editor, news editor and Singapore editor. He has a bachelor’s degree in history and politics from Oxford University, and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University, both obtained on SPH scholarships.
